The main design features of the Tourneo, like its prototype, are large headlights with elongated corners and a new large radiator grille that gives additional individuality and is integral to the bumper. At the same time, the Tourneo directly has a radiator part painted in body colour. The minivan received economical Duratorq TDCI diesel powertrains from the updated Transit with Common-Rail technology.

Accessories

The interior of the Ford Tourneo is, in fact, the maximum that can be obtained from the Transit lineup. The passenger version has velour-lined seats, power and heated mirrors, tilt and reach steering, and steering wheel controls. In addition to air conditioning, there is an audio system with USB, AUX and four speakers. The front panel, although moulded from cheap plastic, like a van, is characterized by increased functionality.

There are several compartments for things, and a gear lever is located on the ledge of the centre console. The vehicle may have one or two (optional) sliding doors. Three rows of seats can accommodate nine people (including the driver) or eight people in a more comfortable version.

Drivetrain

Ford Tourneo 2006-2014 for the South African market was equipped with 4-cylinder turbodiesel 2.2-litre Duratorq series TDCi power units. All engines received the Common Rail system and are represented by different power options: from 115 to 140 hp.

As standard, the engines were connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Fuel consumption is about 6.3-6.6 l / 100 km on the highway and 8.7-9.3 l / 100 km in the urban cycle.

Suspension Parts

The Ford Tourneo, like the Ford Transit, has a front-independent suspension with MacPherson struts and a rear-dependent leaf spring. Disc brakes on all wheels (front ventilated), and steering is standardly equipped with a hydraulic booster. The standard minivan, as before, was created based on the short-wheelbase version of the Transit – the distance between the axles is 2933 mm.

Body dimensions: 4863 x 1974 x 1989 mm (L x W x H). In the current generation, due to the upgraded chassis and steering, it was possible to reduce the turning radius – 5.4 meters slightly.

At the same time, the track has been expanded to 1732 / 1743 mm (front/rear) for better stability. The low-floor chassis has also reduced the loading height, which is only 619 mm – almost like a passenger car.

Road Safety

In the standard equipment, the manufacturer included a driver’s airbag, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake force distribution (EBD). Available for the model were: electronic stability control (ESP), hill descent assistants (DAC), and hill start assistants (HAC), as well as a tire pressure monitoring system, and front and rear parking sensors.
